At the end of the 18th century, the cloister of the Convent of Saint Francis of Assisi was built on this site and remained standing until the 1950s. Authorities later ordered its demolition to construct the new facilities of the Official Preparatory School, inaugurated in 1957. In addition to the Preparatory School, the building also housed the Official Secondary School of Irapuato Decades later, both institutions relocated to other facilities. Consequently, in 1984, the site was repurposed as the Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez Primary School. This building functioned as a primary school until its demolition in 2011. Following its demolition, the space was redeveloped as the Plaza del Artista (Artist’s Square), which was inaugurated on September 15, 2012. Since then, it has served as a venue for artistic exhibitions and cultural events.
