The Barrio de Santiaguito has its own square, a very old square. It is already mentioned in a document from 1816; therefore, it is a square that arose from the viceregal era. Since then, it has been a meeting and coexistence center for the residents of this neighborhood.
On July 25, the Holy Apostle Santiago is celebrated. After the religious celebrations, the neighbors live together in the square and in the streets surrounding the temple of Santiaguito, as has been done since colonial times.
The festivities in honor of Apostle Santiago were always popular among the people of Irapuato, it is known that in the eighteenth-century horse races and bullfights were held.
Today the Plaza de Santiaguito continues to be an element of identity for this neighborhood, a place to live and rest from the daily hustle and bustle.
