This temple belonged to the Venerable Tercera Orden, a corporation of lay people who lived according to the rules established by San Francisco de Asís. There is evidence that the Tercera Orden was established in Irapuato since the beginning of the eighteenth century, but it was not until 1772 when they bought the land on which they built this church. Baroque in style, this colonial temple is dedicated to San Buenaventura.
