It was built in the 18th century. Its main façade was lost when the Convent of the Teaching was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century, to which it was integrated. The convent of the Teaching was administered by the nuns of the Compañía de María, a female order whose objective was to educate the girls of the congregation of Irapuato. Currently the convent building is the headquarters of the Municipal Presidency. The temple protects the image of Our Virgen de la Soledad, a Marian invocation that was elected patron saint of Irapuato in 1812, after the town was saved from being looted by the insurgent Albino García. This event was considered a miraculous intervention of the Virgen de la Soledad.
